The National Assembly Internship Programme, also known as the Parliamentary Internship Programme, is the foremost flagship initiative by the National Assembly of Pakistan to contribute to the development of youths in the promotion of civic responsibility and to gain experience in operation within the democratic institution of Pakistan. The National Assembly Internship Program has developed a structured, six-week opportunity for all young graduates and students to gain practical experience in parliamentary operations, legislative research, and public policy. The initiation of this as part of the Assembly’s Strategic Plan is intended to bridge theoreticians with governance as the next generation of civic leaders and policy professionals are groomed. Applications are invited by the National Assembly of Pakistan for its six-week Parliamentary Internship Programme commencing in June 2025, where young graduates can acquire practical experience of the functioning of Parliament.  The internship is also part of the Assembly’s activities targeting youth engagement and civic participation through academic collaboration per the Assembly’s Strategic Plan.

Interns under this internship will work full-time for six weeks, five days a week, and at least eight hours a day. The interns will have a 3–5 day orientation at the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS), Islamabad, before being assigned to various departments of the National Assembly. Structure of Parliamentary Internship Program

Time Frame and Calendar

The internship lasts six weeks and has several batches in one year. Interns work full time, 5 days per week, with a minimum of 8 hours per day on average. 

Orientation and Training

3-5 day orientation at Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS), Islamabad. Interns will learn about parliamentary procedures, legislative research, and the code of conduct. 

Departmental Placement 

Interns will undergo various internships at the National Assembly Secretariat, during which they will gain practical knowledge in:

National Assembly Internship Program Eligibility Criteria

Academic Requirement

The candidate must have completed at least 14 years of education in a recognized institution under the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Students enrolled in four-year undergraduate programs may apply after completing two years (four semesters).
